Undergraduate
Minor in Public Policy
Capstone
Seminar
To complete the minor, students
must take the following course or an acceptable alternative:
Policy Studies 197:
Research Seminar in Policy Studies
This course will follow
a seminar/workshop format and will be taught in sections of 15 to 20 students.
The seminar will be organized around the production of a research paper
by each student. The papers will draw upon the student's entire prior academic
and practical experiences in the minor. Fieldwork may be incorporated into
the seminar depending on the interests of the students and the instructor.
With the approval of the
faculty, students may substitute field experience with a credited research
component for the research seminar. Programs that would meet this requirement
include those offered through the Center for the Study of Urban Poverty,
the Center for American Politics and Public Policy, or another program
approved by the faculty.
For students who have already
completed or intend to complete an internship related to public policy
through a government, non-profit or for-profit agency, a petition can be
filed to have such work applied to the capstone requirement. Students
must obtain advisory approval.
