The UCLA Social Welfare Alumni Association

The UCLA Social Welfare Alumni Association promotes a close relationship between the alumni, faculty, students and staff of the Department of Social Welfare.  Through its programs, SWAA advances the study and practice of social work and strives to enhance the image of social work in the community.  The association sponsors a scholarship program and the Harry Wasserman Community Service Award, presented each year to an outstanding MSW student.

Involvement Opportunities

Dinners for 12 Strangers
Host dinner for students and a faculty member from Social Welfare.  On February 26, March 5 and April 16, 2000, the School will participate in Dinners for 12 Strangers, sponsored by the UCLA Alumni Association, to bring together Social Welfare alumni, students, and faculty in an informal, fun setting.

Alumni Advocacy
Join Bruin Caucus and become a UCLA advocate by volunteering to participate in the political process – meeting legislators, writing letters, attending informational events and bolstering support for higher education.

Student Support
Volunteer to support current students and help communicate the value of their degree.  We need speakers for career events, advocates for student recruitment efforts and internship opportunities.

The UCLA Alumni Network Database
Social Welfare alumni are invited to volunteer to provide information about their professions and jobs to students and alumni via the UCLA Alumni Network Database.  The network, run by the UCLA Alumni Association, contains business information for 4,000 alumni volunteers.  UCLA students and members of the UCLA Alumni Association can access the database from the Web.  Interested students and alumni browse a list of volunteers’ firms and positions, then obtain names and phone numbers directly from the UCLA Alumni Association.
