| Route 2 contains a number of snap shots of the residential area south and north of Pico Boulevard. It starts with a view of the Normandie Recreation Center playground. At any day, many children play at this location, usually supervised by their parents. Close to the playground is a basketball court, where teenagers and young adults play and socialize. The Normandie Recreation Center, as well as a number of churches scattered around the residential areas, are the only locations in which a somewhat pronounced social activity can be observed every day. Unlike Pico Boulevard, the residential area presents different types of pedestrian and social activity on weekdays and on weekends. While on weekdays it is common to see residents walking to the stores or to schools, as well as children playing in front of their houses, and elders or homeless people sitting on benches or on the steps of abandoned buildings, the neighborhood's life over the weekend seems more varied. It is not uncommon to come across spontaneous soccer games, garage sales, breakfast sales in front of the different churches, and street vending. |
