Bus Boardings

The area is served by several bus lines, all within a half-mile walking distance. Pico Boulevard is served by MTA lines 30 and 31, which are local fixed route lines with destinations to and from the Los Angeles central business district (CBD). Paralleling this route are lines 27, 28, and 328 to the north along Olympic Boulevard and lines 33 and 333 to the south along Venice Boulevard. North-south travel is served by line 206 along Normandie Avenue, lines 204 and 354 along Vermont Avenue, and line 200 along Alvarado Street (see Table 3). All north-south lines provide connections to Metro Red Line stations along Wilshire Boulevard. Additionally, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) will soon demonstrate a flexible shuttle service ("Smart Shuttle") just north of the BLQ study area.

Transit Dependency

Pico Boulevard is an east-west commercial arterial that has a high concentration of pedestrian and vehicular traffic. It is a four-lane arterial with peak period parking restrictions. The area population is highly transit dependent with approximately 33 percent of the households with no vehicles available. Other transit dependency indicators include mobility limitations (i.e., persons with disabilities and/or self-care limitations) and persons under 16 and over 65 years of age. Table 2 compares these transit demand characteristics against the citywide and countywide statistics.
