THE
UCLA GLOBALIZATION RESEARCH CENTER - AFRICA
The UCLA Globalization Research Center-Africa (GRCA) was established in the Fall of 2001. GRCA conducts research on the dynamics and effects of globalization, with particular emphasis on impacts within Africa. As such, the Center is a partner in the Globalization Research Network (GRN) involving UCLA, The University of Hawaii-Manoa, University of South Florida, and the George Washington University, the centers as individual units concentrate respectively on Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean; and Europe and the Middle East. The overall aim of GRCA is to engage in research on ways global forces impact upon African societies; the ways in which African societies have impacts upon the globalization process; and comparative, cross national and cross cultural comparison of global processes as they relate to Africa. This work is policy relevant, and its results will be widely distributed to educators, educational institutions, policy makers and the public at large. The intention is to develop an institution open to collaboration with and input from different disciplines in academia, and to partner with other research endeavors in both the public and private sectors. We envision the GRCA as a sharer of resources, within the entire University of California, but particularly the UCLA campus, among academic and non-academic circles. In that spirit, GRCA has entered into a partnership with the Center for Globalization and Policy Research. GRCA is currently housed in facilities provided by the Center for Globalization and Policy Research, and the two centers closely coordinate their activities and engage in collaborative projects.
