Ann Marie Wheelock is Senior Vice President of Fannie Mane's Western Region, a shareholder-owned corporation that is the nation's largest source of financing for home mortgages. She is responsible for achieving the revenue, profitability and housing mission goals for the nine-state region, which serves nearly 400 customers in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.
Ms. Wheelock also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Fannie Mae Foundation. The Fannie Mae Foundation transforms communities through innovative partnerships and initiatives that revitalizes neighborhoods and create affordable homeownership and housing opportunities across America. Ms. Wheelock joined the Fannie Mae Foundation in June 1997 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining the Foundation, Ms. Wheelock had served as an Officer of Fannie Mae as the Western Regional Housing Impact Vice President, and then as Executive Assistant to James A. Johnson, Fannie Mae's former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Before joining Fannie Mae, Ms. Wheelock was the Deputy Director of the Community Development Agency, Office of Planning and Community Development for the City and County of Denver. In that capacity she advised Mayor Wellington Webb on housing, community, and economic development issues. Prior to her city post appointment, Ms. Wheelock was a practicing Public Finance Attorney in the Denver office of Kutak Rock, a national law firm based in Omaha, Nebraska. She had also served as the Executive Director of the Colorado Hispanic League where she helped develop and implement the organization's legislative agenda.
In 1993, Ms. Wheelock was named a John F. Kennedy Fellow for the Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University, School of Government. She is currently a board member of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, National Council of La Raza, Development Capital Corporation, a NCLR subsidiary, Tomás Rivera Policy Institute, and advisory member of The Brookings Institution Center on Urban & Metropolitan Policy and Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies.
Ms. Wheelock received her B.S. with distinction and special honors from the University of Iowa, and J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California. She is a member of the California and Colorado State Bar.
