| Abstract:
Much has been written recently about the two main forms of post-fordism. One of these forms is based on stable institutions and contracts. The other is based on flexibility and stochastic approaches to economic order. These two models have characteristic spatial signatures: industrial districts and the megalopolitan city-region, respectively. Within the latter, the lack of social bonds creates exclusion and ecological crises. Strategies exist, however, to reconnect people within a civic order. This implies active political engagement in new tasks of institution building. |
