This paper will analyze the role of telecommunications and transportation technologies in the development of global city-regions, with specific emphasis on the emerging role of deep-water ports, international airline service, global media organizations, and the growth of advanced telecommunications services. The paper will draw upon global patterns of activity in those areas and the role of policymakers concerned with urban economic development.
