SPPSR Community Outreach Programs

  • Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC)
The Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC) is a program lead by UCLA's Department of Urban Planning and the Advanced Policy Institute (API). The Center was funded in January of 1995 to institutionalize and to coordinate individual efforts of community partnership that have been going on for over twenty years.
  • Neighborhood Knowledge Los Angeles Project (NKLA)
Neighborhood Knowledge Los Angeles (NKLA) is a website dedicated to helping prevent housing and neighborhood conditions from deteriorating. NKLA provides tools for accessing property and neighborhood data and works with neighborhood residents, community organizations, and policymakers to mobilize support for community improvement in the Los Angeles area.
  • Center for North American Integration and Development(NAID)
The North American Integration and Development (NAID) Center was created to conduct ongoing research concerning North American integration and to assist communities and governments with policies and investment projects for sustainable and equitable development across borders. Towards this goal, the NAID Center seeks to build linkages among a wide variety of institutions and organizations in North America, including the North American Development Bank (NADBank).
  • Advanced Policy Institute (API)
The Advanced Policy Institute was initially called the Advanced Public Service Institute. It was the belief of the founding SPPSR dean, Archie Kleingartner, that the new school needed a vehicle to provide technical assistance to organizations engaged in public service. Under the direction of Paul Curcio, the Institute secured a training grant with the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority. In July of 1996, Curcio took a new position at the UCLA Graduate School of Management and was replaced by Urban Planning faculty member J. Eugene Grigsby, III. One of Grigsby’s first initiatives was to change the name to the Advanced Policy Institute (API) and create a mission statement defining the primary purpose of the organization as working with parties interested in both the formulation and implementation of policy. API has sought to link the expert knowledge of UCLA faculty with the experience and practical knowledge of public and private executives and civic leaders.
