Previous research projects have included studies of the impact of immigration on urban, native-born African-American workers in New York, the evolving demographic make-up of Los Angeles, and the plight of Asian immigrants in the garment industry in New York City. Professor Waldinger has recently published two books examining the changing face of immigration in the past 50 years and its' effects on two major urban cities, New York and Los Angeles. As former Director of the Lewis Center, Professor Waldinger coordinated a successful lecture series focusing on salient policy issues facing the country today. In addition, he has also worked with the UCLA-Ben Gurion Exchange Program, the UCLA Center for Jewish Studies, and the Hillel Council at UCLA, to bring leading scholars from Israel to UCLA, to lecture and discuss the politics and culture of modern Israel. Selected Publications: Waldinger, Roger. Still the Promised City? African-Americans and New Immigrants in Post-Industrial New York. Cambridge, Massachusetts: Harvard University Press, 1996. Waldinger, Roger and Bozorgmehr, Mehdi,
eds. Ethnic Los Angeles, New York: Russell-Sage Foundation, 1996.
